Out for a day on the bike.
The full length of the canal is navigable not only by boat, but by bicycle. Fly in to Carcassonne or to Toulouse or get the train to Toulouse, rent a bike and set off down the length of the canal to the Mediterranean, or just do a few days and see the sights. The paths are flat and the cycling is easy along tree lined pathways next to the canal. There are villages and towns dotted along the canal where you can savour the local food and culture. All in all a very relaxing holiday.
Our Chambres d’Hotes is right on the banks of the canal, overlooking the Grand Bassin at Castelnaudary. It can be accessed from the canal path and bikes can be parked in our house overnight.
